At 2:20am police said they saw a red Mitsubishi Magna sedan travelling at high speed along Dixon Drive, Duffy, turning left onto Warragamba Avenue.
A police statement said officers turned on the emergency lights and siren, but the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued.
The vehicle travelled through several streets in Duffy at speeds up to 89km/hr before crossing into Rivett where the vehicle mounted a kerb on Darwinia Terrace. The vehicle slid sideways down a steep underpass embankment where it came to rest.
Police alleged the driver of the vehicle ran along a footpath and was caught adjacent to Toona Place, Rivett. Police said a small amount of white clear crystals suspected to be methamphetamine was located on the man.
The driver was taken into custody and to the ACT Watch House. The red Mitsubishi Magna sedan was seized by police.
The man was charged with one count of failing to stop, one of furious, reckless or dangerous driving, one of driving while disqualified and one of possession of drug of dependence.
He will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
Police identified seven passengers in the vehicle, one of whom was in the boot of the vehicle.
