The Convoy for Cancer Families will be trying to raise close to a quarter of a million dollars for Canberra and Queanbeyan cancer patients.

It is the major fundraiser for the year for The Cancer Support Group ACT Eden Monaro's Own which provides financial assistance to cancer patients and their family.

Previous years' efforts have raised more than $230,000, with all of the money going direct to patients, according to the group's volunteer coordinator Jade Carr.

"None of the money goes to wages as we are lucky enough to have a grant from ACT Health which covers the three staff in the office," she said.

Entries are closed for trucks, with 400 signed up. Entries for motorcycles are still open, with about 300 expected on the day.

The trucks and bikes will leave the new industrial estate of Beard, on the ACT-NSW border near Harman, at 10am on Sunday and travel up Hindmarsh Drive towards their destination at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

The convoy will travel on other roads including the Monaro Highway, Morshead Drive, Parkes Way and Gungahlin Drive.

It is expected to take two hours to get all the trucks assembled into Exhibition Park, with the first arriving at about 11am.

Money is raised by the truck and bike owners paying an entry fee but also donations from the public on the day.

At Exhibition Park there will be food and drink stalls, bubble soccer, a Nerf arena, mechanical bull, jumping castle and merchandise stalls.
