1. AUSTRALIAN RUNNING FESTIVAL
Lace up those running shoes - the Australian Running Festival visits town this weekend. On Saturday there are 5km and 10km events, and then the big ones on Sunday with a half marathon, marathon and ultra marathon. If you haven't entered yet, registrations are still open at runningfestival.com.au. 2. LOADED LANEWAY
Canberra's getting its own laneway party. Loaded Laneway will take over Verity Lane, through the middle of the Sydney Building, this Friday and Saturday night with DJs, live music and food trucks. Tickets start at $30 from Eventbrite. 18+.
3. MORE CANBERRA WINE WEEK
Canberra Wine Week finishes up this weekend, and there are still plenty of ways to try the local grapes. There's a garden party on Friday night at Pod Food, complete with pig on a spit, paella, and four local winemakers, and on Sunday there's an alfresco long lunch at the Arboretum. 4. FRIDAY THE 13TH
Give yourself a scare this Friday night, which happens to be Friday the 13th. The National Film and Sound Archive will be playing the Aussie premier of the digital restoration of seminal horror flick, Night of the Living Dead. The film starts at 7pm in the Arc Cinema and zombie dress ups are encouraged. Tickets $13-15 from nfsa.gov.au.
5. FISHING IN GOOGONG
Googong is hosting a fishy affair on Saturday. Rob Paxevanos from Fishing Australia will team up with Canberran native fishing expert and wildlife filmmaker Roman Dicovski, and indigenous chef Mark
Olive to talk all things fishing - and plating up your catch. There will also be activities for the kids. It's on 11am-2pm at Beltana Park, Googong. Free entry.
