Police say they were called to a home in Richardson about 8.30pm on July 13 after reports the woman was being assaulted, and arrived to find the defendant's partner crying and distressed, with blood dripping from a wound along her hairline onto her left ear, court documents said.

The defendant, who appeared in the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday morning charged with multiple assault offences, had allegedly followed his partner to the front door of the next-door home after the woman had gone seeking refuge together with her baby daughter.

The woman initially refused to tell police about her injuries other than, "Yeah he did it to me", but that evening told police the cut was from the defendant hitting her in the head with a full toiletries bag, court documents said.

The defendant had allegedly got angry with the woman after she left a mobile phone in one of her friends' car, she told police.

Police inspected the woman's own residence to find a hole about 12 centimetres wide and 12 centimetres long in the kitchen door, which the woman said had been caused by the defendant punching the door that night. Police saw numerous other holes consistent with a fist-size in various walls of the property, the court documents said.

The woman told police the defendant had previously bashed her, causing bruises, but this was the first time he had caused her to bleed, the documents said.

She refused to give further details to the police about the incident, saying the defendant would kill her, but told them he would hit her with things rather than punch her "so he can say he never lays a hand on me".

The next-door neighbour told police she had heard yelling, screaming and then two loud bangs coming from the woman's property, and about 10 minutes later the woman arrived at the neighbour's front door asking for help. The neighbour said the defendant followed and took hold of the woman, punching her in the head three or four times, according to court documents.

Police arrested the man in NSW on Friday night.

There was no application for bail on Saturday, meaning the defendant will be in jail until the next court date on September 23.
