Maged Mohommed Ahmed Al-Harazi, 34, has pleaded not guilty to murdering Sabah Al-Mdwali, 28, inside the Knoke Avenue house on March 16 or 17.

Police say they found Ms Al-Mdwali, a mother-of-three, dead on a bed in the main bedroom with stab wounds and defensive wounds to her hands and fingers.

Mr Al-Harazi wore grey tracksuit pants and a blue polar fleece jumper and repeatedly tapped his foot on the ground during a brief appearance in the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Magistrate Beth Campbell committed Al-Harazi to stand trial in the higher court with the help of an Arabic interpreter.

Mr Al-Harazi did not speak except to decline an opportunity to give evidence or call witnesses to give evidence.

He did not apply for bail and will remain in custody until the matter is back in court next month.

Police facts previously tendered in court said a visibly upset Mr Al-Harazi went to the Tuggeranong Police Station about 3.07am on March 17 to report that his wife had been stabbed.

Police who found her body at the house reported blood on the bedding and spattered on the walls and furniture.

Mr Al-Harazi allegedly told police his father-in-law and brother-in-law had been harassing Ms Al-Mdwali about money.

He allegedly said the pair had visited on the night of her death and he left with the children at their request.

Mr Al-Harazi claimed he took the children for a drive and returned home to find the men gone and his wife dead, the documents said.

But police investigations allegedly discovered no phone records to support his claims her family had harassed her about money.

And CCTV footage from a neighbour showed the home had no cars arriving or leaving the home between 8pm on March 16 and 2.30am the next day, the documents said.

Police alleged Ms Al-Mdwali's family said the pair had a difficult relationship that was marred by conflict.

The family claimed Mr Al-Harazi had a volatile temper and had pulled knives on family members, hit Ms Al-Mdwali, destroyed furniture, and had threatened to kill his wife in the past.

She allegedly told family members she regretted marrying Mr Al-Harazi and she wanted to divorce him because she was fed up with the abuse.

Family members convinced her to stay for her children.

The pair reportedly separated earlier this year but she returned in February after he signed an agreement that she would take the children and leave if there was another incident.

Mr Al-Harazi allegedly confirmed the existence of that agreement to police.

But he allegedly told police he had never threatened his wife with a knife or been violent towards her.

The matter will come before the ACT Supreme Court on October 1.
