The 38-year-old is accused of stealing a multi-pack of matches and attempting to take cash from a cash register at a supermarket in the Canberra Centre at about 8.15pm on Saturday night.
Police allege a man matching the same description entered a service station on Lonsdale Street five minutes later where he threatened a cashier with a syringe before stealing some money.
A detailed description of the man was obtained from CCTV footage and circulated to police.
Less than four hours later at 12.45am, the same man is accused of going to another service station in Lonsdale Street where he threatened another shop attendant with a syringe.
Police allege that when the attendant failed to open the cash register, the man jumped the counter and stole sunglasses, tobacco and mobile phones.
He rode away on a bicycle along with a second man who had been waiting outside on a second bike, police said.
Police arrested the man just over an hour later at 1.55am in Kanangra Court with the suspected stolen items.
He has been charged with multiple offences, including aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon and theft.
The 38-year-old will face ACT Magistrates Court on Monday where bail will be opposed.
