At least 2000 flocked to the ACT's Beer Day Out to sample product from about 35 Australian and international breweries.

Yarralumla resident Cathy Starling said she found craft beers were just better than other alcohol, and that whenever she went out she tried to drink something from a local brewer.

She said the turnout had been incredible. "I didn't know there were this many people in Canberra," she said.

It was Zierholz Brewery owner Christoph Zierholz's first year exhibiting at the Beer Day Out. "It's a great opportunity to showcase our Canberra beer alongside the best the country has to offer," he said.

Canberra Beer Week creator Anthony Young, who owns Plonk Beer and Wine in Fyshwick, said craft beers were gaining popularity across the territory.

"There's certainly been a big swing towards craft beer and better quality products that aren't just pumped out by the major breweries," he said.

He said lots of Canberra venues had put craft beers on their menus after the success of Canberra Beer Week in 2013.

"All beer lovers and people that want to get into good craft beer should come," Mr Young said.

Canberra Beer Week will run until Friday, November 14. There will be a range of activities including a series of takeovers, for which venues will replace their tap beers with a selection of craft brews.

On Sunday there will be a long lunch at PodFood in Pialligo and a movie night with HopDog Beerworks later in the evening.
