The Greens held their vote, and only a fractional swing of 0.1 per cent was recorded against them by Sunday afternoon.

The inner city seat of Kurrajong was easily its best, with a swing toward the party of 0.7 per cent, and comfortably returning sitting member and Greens leader Shane Rattenbury.

The result came despite fears that the power-sharing deal with Labor, in place since 2012, may have tarnished the Greens and hurt their vote.

Mr Rattenbury joined fellow Greens candidates in Braddon on Sunday, including Caroline Le Couteur, who is expected to win the fifth seat in the Woden-Weston electorate of Murrumbidgee. That would boost the Greens' representation in the Assembly to two, although the exact nature of their agreement with Labor remains to be decided.

"What we have traditionally seen with power-sharing governments is that the smaller party tends to take an electoral backlash, whether the government has gone well or the government has gone badly," Mr Rattenbury said.

"To hold our vote yesterday, to see a swing towards myself and the Greens in Kurrajong, is very positive."

"We remain in the game in a number of electorates; certainly Murrumbidgee with Caroline Le Couteur is looking very strong for us."

Ms Le Couteur said that, if returned, she would seek to give residents of Canberra's south better representation in the Legislative Assembly.

It would be the second time Ms Le Couteur has served in the Legislative Assembly. She was elected in 2008 but lost her seat in 2012's poor result for the Greens, which saw the party lose three seats.

"One of the things I will bring to the Assembly is, the people of south Canberra, the people of Woden in particular, have felt for quite a long time that they have been under-represented," she said.

"When I was a member for Molonglo, Woden was split into two electorates and I think it will be really positive for Woden and Weston having members of the Assembly who actually represent them."

She said it was "incredibly positive" that the Greens vote had not suffered as a result of the power-sharing arrangement with Labor.

Ms Le Couteur brings considerable business experience to the Assembly, including a successful stint as the executive director of Australian Ethical Investment, an ASX-listed company.

The Greens offered their support to Labor early on election night. Since its campaign launch in July, the Greens had all but ruled out forming a coalition with the Liberals.

Mr Rattenbury said the Liberals had "backed themselves into a corner" by pledging to rip up the light rail contract.

"They made it untenable for us to negotiate with them," he said.

"The Liberal Party have minimalised the possibilities and that's something they'll need to reflect on as well."

"I think there's real question marks for them now, both Alistair Coe and Jeremy Hanson, in the two leadership positions, the absolute architects of this election strategy ... they've now got to really question what the future direction is for them."
