Deputy Chief Minister Yvette Berry urgently called on the 2017 Labor Conference to support a motion to reexamine how the party deals with reports of inappropriate conduct and learn how to better deal with bullying and harassment.

ACT Labor Secretary Matt Byrne said he did not believe existing rules provided enough support for people coming forward.

"We can't be naive and think just because it's happened to other parties means it won't happen to us. I think we all would have seen what's happened to the Greens recently and the failure of their processes and party culture in making sure their members and supporters can participate in forums and campaign for them in a safe and inclusive environment," Mr Byrne said.

"It's really important we be proactive on this. I'm the secretary and I can say whilst our processes and policies look good on paper, in my view they don't provide a safe avenue when people come forward and appropriately air their concerns in a way that ensures there's a good outcome for everyone."

The ACT Greens came under fire earlier this month after it was revealed a volunteer had been allegedly sexually assaulted by another volunteer on federal election night last year.

The Greens were accused of having no complaints mechanism and no capacity to deal professionally with the woman's complaint.

At a federal level, the Greens lost senators Larissa Waters and Scott Ludlam within a week of each other after it was revealed they held dual citizenship.

"I think if section 44 is anything to go by I think we need to do more to ensure our party's processes are strengthened. We can't ever sit silent and wait for something to go wrong," Mr Byrne said.
