The ACT Magistrates Court ordered on Saturday Brett Peters, formerly known as Brett Edward Kenny, be extradited to Western Australia to face charges of bribery, corruption, false testimony and disclosure of restricted matters in relation to his former role as an electrical contractor with the City of Perth.

Police arrested Peters in Fyshwick on Thursday on a WA-issued warrant for failing to appear in court after officers identified him leaving a brothel.

WA's anti-corruption body, the Corruption and Crime Commission, had summonsed Peters, then known as Brett Kenny and previously known as Brett Wright, to face a Perth court on April 15, but he did not appear.

The court heard a note had been sent from solicitors that Peters was awaiting eye surgery at the time of his first scheduled court appearance, but there had been no further correspondence.

The CCC officer heading the investigation into Peters, Special Investigator Ben Smith, told the ACT Magistrates Court the defendant had officially changed his name in NSW on May 10, 25 days after he was due to face the WA court.

The court also heard Peters had changed his car registration from the ACT to NSW under the new name in the same period.

Special Investigator Smith told the court of intercepted phone calls from 2014 in which Peters spoke of plans to change his name "if he was charged in Western Australia".

Magistrate Glenn Theakston ordered the extradition of Peters to WA, placing him into the custody of CCC officers.

Mr Theakston refused bail, claiming there was too great a risk of Peters failing to appear in court.

Peters is due to face Northbridge Magistrates Court on Sunday. He has yet to enter a plea.
