Two ACT Policing officers reportedly visited Julian Knight at Port Phillip Prison on Friday morning to interview the mass shooter about the knifing of a fellow Duntroon staff cadet in 1987.

Fairfax Media understands Knight, 46, made full and frank admissions to police about the attack.

But ACT Policing, in a statement, claim there is no current investigation into Knight.

"We cannot comment in relation to whether ACT Policing members attended Port Phillip Prison in Victoria this morning," a statement said.

The Office of ACT Director of Public Prosecutions also repeated a declaration that Knight had not been in the authorities' sights: "There is no current intention to charge Mr Knight with any offences in the ACT."

Knight is locked up for life after killing seven and injuring 19 during a 1987 shooting rampage in the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill.

At the time of the rampage, Knight had been on ACT Magistrates Court bail over the stabbing a fellow staff cadet at the Private Bin nightclub in May 1987.

Knight had his nose broken and suffered bruising in the fight with three senior cadets after he disobeyed orders to remain in barracks for the night, court documents said.

Hours later, Knight stabbed the man behind the ear, fled the night spot, and immediately surrendered himself to a passing police car.

He suffered damaged to ligaments in his left wrist during the revenge attack.

Charges of malicious wounding, assault, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were later dropped after he was sentenced to life in Victoria.

A renewed prosecution could reignite Knight's bid for a transfer to Canberra jail.

Earlier this year, he wrote to ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell and the ACT DPP to request they revive the historic charges.

Knight offered to plead guilty provided he would then be extradited from Victoria to the Alexander Maconochie Centre.

Knight's sentence included a non-parole period of 27 years, which would have made him eligible for release in May if not for Victorian laws that ensured he would be kept behind bars until he is dead or so incapacitated he is no longer a risk to the community.

Knight's desire to bypass the Victorian legislation is understood to be behind his desire to shift to the ACT.

But if Knight were transferred to Canberra he could then apply for parole unaffected by Victoria's rules.

A move to Canberra would also aid Knight's lawsuit against the Commonwealth over injuries he allegedly suffered during bastardisation at Duntroon.

He has also sought compensation as a victim of crime.

Court documents, filed by Knight in the Supreme Court earlier this year, said the mass murderer suffered personal injury as a result of employer negligence.

He claims the Commonwealth was responsible through a breach of its duty of care, vicarious liability, and negligence.

Knight claims he was assaulted by other cadets on three occasions during instances of bastardisation while at Duntroon, including the nightclub incident.

He alleges he had been punched in the stomach twice in his company barracks during an exercise in February 1987.
