The cadet, Harlan Agresti, 19, is accused of sexually assaulting the two women, both aged 19, in separate incidents in June last year and February this year.

He was released on bail in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday without opposition from prosecutors.

Agresti will be escorted to ADFA to collect his belongings before travelling to Newcastle, where he has been ordered to reside with relatives.

The cadet is on a $10,000 surety and is prohibited from contacting, harassing, or intimidating the complainants and other ADFA cadets.

The first assault allegedly took place after after a night out in Civic, while the second assault allegedly occurred in the woman's home in Campbell.

The two women reported the allegations separately to ADFA staff on Monday. The allegations were immediately referred to the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service, which subsequently referred them to ACT Policing on the same day.

Agresti was arrested on Tuesday by the sexual assault and child abuse team. He was charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.

The case comes after a period of intense focus on defence force culture and the treatment of women.

Reviews were conducted by firm DLA Piper and Sex Discrimination Commissioner Elizabeth Broderick, and the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce was formed to investigate complaints of abuse and misconduct.

Agresti's lawyer, Alyn Doig, said his client would be pleading not guilty and would surrender his passport and comply with a curfew.

Magistrate Peter Dingwall questioned the need for the curfew, particularly given the defendant would no longer be at ADFA.

But prosecutor Phoebe Burgoyne-Scutts argued in favour of the curfew as both of the sexual assaults are alleged to have occurred at night.

Mr Dingwall also questioned the need to hold Agresti overnight on Tuesday night, saying he could have been given bail earlier.

Agresti will reappear in court on October 30.
