The odd mix of James Mercer, of indie outfit the Shins, and super-producer Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) is safe listening.
The Broken Bells album After the Disco.
After the Disco, Broken Bells' second album, is about the morning after a big night, when hazy, ambient music mixes with the jive and disco beats of the previous night.
Mercer and Burton produce low-key tracks that stick in your head. One song rolls into another, and the Bee Gees falsetto of Holding On for Life sounds as familiar as a disco track from the early '80s.
