Monfries, 24, of Kambah, was allegedly fleeing from the scene of a crash when he ran a red light and mowed down two women as they crossed Yamba Drive near The Canberra Hospital, killing one and seriously injuring another.
Police allege he was driving a stolen car and had run from police in Hughes just minutes before the tragic collision in early May.
Monfries faces charges including manslaughter, culpable driving, car theft, failing to stop after a crash and failing to give assistance.
He has not entered pleas.
This morning in the ACT Magistrates Court, Monfries' lawyer asked for further particulars on some of the charges against his client.
The court heard the police brief of evidence was "95 per cent complete" but the defence needed to make further inquiries before pleas could be entered.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall adjourned the matter to August and remanded Monfries in custody.
He marked the man as a detainee at risk.
A woman called out Monfries' name, smiling and waving at him as he was led away, and a relative of one of the victims shouted out, "Your time will come".
