Candice Anne Perry, 32, had been out at a club near Jamison in June last year with two brothers, one of whom she knew.

Ms Perry had recently lost custody of her son, and was having trouble sleeping, was depressed, and having panic attacks.

One of the brothers, whom she hadn't known previously, began saying she deserved to lose the child.

That hit a "very raw nerve" the court heard.

Later on in the night, Ms Perry was driving the two men home.

They began arguing, and the brother again said words to the effect of "no wonder you lost your son".

She told the two men to get out, before another insensitive comment was made.

Ms Perry reacted by driving her car off the road and at the men.

One went up onto the bonnet and was flung from the car.

The car hit a tree and stopped, and one of the injured men pleaded with her not to reverse because his brother was still under the car.

She reversed anyway, but didn't hit the man.

Both men suffered significant injuries, which left them with permanent scarring, reduced mobility, and requiring hospitalisation.

Ms Perry came before Justice Richard Refshauge for sentencing on Friday, after pleading guilty to two offences of causing grievous bodily harm.

Justice Refshauge told her he understood the distress over the loss of her son, and acknowledged it was an impulsive decision.

But he said she should not have reacted in the way that she had.

"To use a motor vehicle as a weapon, in the way Ms Perry did, must be regarded as a serious offence," Justice Refshauge said.

Ms Perry was sentenced to two years imprisonment, to be served by 10 months weekend detention.

The remainder of the sentence will be suspended, and she will be placed on a good behaviour order.

"I hope that this is a lesson to you. This is a very serious offence," Justice Refshauge said.

"If you continue to commit offences like this and don't learn some skills to help manage this situation with your son... you are going to get into serious trouble."
