The company, which also behind the ACT Brumbies' biggest sponsorship deal in club history, has appointed Geoff Andres as Aquis Entertainment chief executive officer.

Mr Andres will move to the nation's capital to oversee the expansion of the groups' Australian operations, the new casino.

Aquis managing director Justin Fung said Mr Andes's leadership would help the group deliver on its vision for a genuine entertainment precinct in the city's east.

Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung, who snapped up the site for $6 million in December, revealed the grand plans for a new integrated casino, dining and nightlife complex last month.

"Geoff will be the most experienced gaming CEO in Australia and it's encouraging that he has been able to see the vision we have for the growth of Aquis in Australia and has chosen to be part of that" Justin said.

"The Canberra project is our absolute focus right now and this appointment will help ensure that we deliver a world-class outcome."

Mr Andres is currently the senior vice-president and general manager of Sands Macau where he has been responsible for driving a significant redevelopment program across the 289-room five star resort.

His appointment is subject to ACT Gambling and Racing Commission approval.
