Though the drought which ravaged Canberra for about 10 years is behind us, a demonstration garden on efficient use of water has been established at the National Arboretum.
The Canberra Discovery Garden, created by Actew Corporation, was officially opened yesterday by Chief Minister Katy Gallagher.

Actew managing director Mark Sullivan said the garden paid tribute to the hard work that many Canberra gardeners had put into their gardens and lawns during the decade of drought.
There was something at the garden for gardeners of all abilities.
He hoped people would take home some practical ideas to help to save water and achieve great results in their backyards.
The garden demonstrated it was not only how gardens were watered which kept them healthy and waterwise.
Plant selection, soil health, composting, mulching and understanding Canberra's environment were key components.
Mr Sullivan said the Canberra Discovery Garden was not only about drought tolerant plants and minimal watering.
''It aims for sustainable gardening by using a whole of garden approach, encompassing a broader understanding of the environmental and other factors that play a role in your gardens health and water efficiency,'' he said
On hand at yesterday's opening to offer his years of gardening experience was Don Burke of TV's Burke's Backyard.
He is a former board member of Landcare and chair of the Australian Environment Foundation.
The open days for the Canberra Discovery Garden are limited to once a month. Opening times will be shown online at actew.com.au or call 6248 3131.
