The Australian Sex Party has been formally registered by the ACT Electoral Commission and is determined to win the balance of power at the 2016 territory election.

The party will be led by former Katter's Australia Party member Steven Bailey, who resigned from the party after disagreements about his pro-gay marriage views.
"We are aiming to win between one and three seats and we are not going to be stupid and spread our wings too far or our resources too thin," he said. "We have not yet decided which electorates we will contest."
Mr Bailey, a musician and writer who was recruited by the party's national president Fiona Patten, said he would aim to replicate the success of the party in Victoria where it maintains a balance of power.
"We are in the process of engaging with our membership and forming policy but from my perspective, we will run on a platform that says Canberra is over regulated with zealous parking inspectors," he said.
"The ANU School of Music is also one of the most important issues for me and if we find ourselves in a balance of power, we will be negotiating with the ACT government to restore it to the great institution it should be."
Mr Bailey, who moved to Canberra as a 16-year-old to study at Narrabundah College, said he would continue to campaign for marriage equality and gay rights in the ACT.
"No one spent more time with Bob Katter trying to convince him to change his position on this than me. Those who change party are often those with a steadfast conviction in their heart," he said.
Ms Patten, a member of the Victorian Legislative Council, said the party was not trying to secure government in Canberra but to ensure a more diverse political landscape.
"We just want to make sure that the major parties make the ACT the most modern place to live in Australia and having a healthy cross bench populated with progressive and youthful minds is the best way to do that," she said.
"The ACT has a history of voting in a strong and varied cross bench to hold the major parties to account and we hope to continue that tradition."
Mr Bailey said the party would hold a general meeting in Canberra early next year to determine a policy platform and raise issues.
"The ACT branch will run a strong and creative campaign in numerous electorates in the lead up to the 2016 ACT elections, and is currently in the process of attracting the best and brightest candidates to represent the party," he said.
Mr Bailey said he would develop "one of the most inspiring arts policies in the world" if elected.
