Steve Willis aka trainer The Commando on Australia's Biggest Loser is due to crunch some abs and break some some sweat when he visits the national capital on February 22 and 23 to run three boot camps.
Tickets for the first two boot camps sold out in 24 hours. A third was put on and has almost sold out. A "selfie with Steve" is included in the $160 price tag.
The no-nonsense Willis reckons Canberrans have something to prove to him.
“I've heard that Canberra is the most active city in Australia,” he said.
“Now it's time for locals to walk the talk, in a 90-minute workout that will push them to their limits. No excuses.”
Willis will also be hosting a dinner on the night of February 22 at Maple+Clove in Barton for an exclusive gathering of 60 guests. The menu will feature "nutritious, local, seasonal food and organic wines".
Willis, who made headlines with his relationship with fellow Biggest Loser trainer Michelle Bridges, will be back on television from Sunday when the show tackles the community of Ararat, Victoria, labelled one of Australia's most overweight towns.
The Canberra boot camps will be held at Reconciliation Place in Parkes, on the lawns between the National Portrait Gallery and Questacon, and the public is being encouraged to witness the spectacle of participants feeling the pain. Part of the workout in Canberra will involve teams pulling an ACT Fire and Rescue truck across the lawns.
The Commando is being brought to the national capital through a collaboration between Battle Camp Fitness and Defence Force Recruiting.
He is a former team commander with the Australian Special Forces and credits his army experience with helping to develop a program built on mental strength and physical endurance.
“My time in the military taught me valuable lessons in terms of discipline and perseverance, gave me the chance to serve my country, and has now provided me with the skills to create a successful civilian career," Willis said.
"It takes hard work, but if you apply yourself and give your all - physically and mentally - it can be the best decision you ever make.”
Battle Camp Fitness owners, Dan Ford and James Humphreys, are thrilled to bring Willis to the ACT.
The public is being encouraged to attend the sessions on February 22 at 10am and 3pm. There will be demonstrations by Defence Force Recruiting, information and market stalls and activities for the children. For more details, follow Battle Camp Fitness on Facebook. Tickets for the boot camps can be purchased online.
