Louise Bai, 56, was on trial in the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday after pleading not guilty to a charge of discharging a firearm endangering life.
She has admitted to possession of the bolt-action .22 rifle, which she stole from a friend's home without his knowledge.
Both charges carry a maximum sentence of five years jail.
The alleged victim suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder as he came out of the toilet of a McKellar home in February earlier this year.
Ms Bai claims the incident was an accident after the man attempted to snatch the loaded rifle from her grasp. The self-described direct descendant of Genghis Khan told police she did not initially realise the man had been shot.
She admitted she had learnt to handle firearms in school in China and had shot cans with that exact rifle with her friend only weeks earlier.
Prosecutor Sara Gul said Ms Bai's evidence contradicted itself and could not be taken seriously.
Ms Gul said Ms Bai's experience with guns made the accident explanation unlikely as she knew the possible consequences of pointing a loaded rifle at a person.
Magistrate Robert Cook reserved his decision until November.
Ms Bai, who has vocally maintained her innocence throughout the matter, told the magistrate she did not belong in jail. Michael Inman
