A Canberra man who allegedly posted explicit images of his partner on Facebook hours after being charged with choking her has been refused bail.

The 41-year-old Conder resident allegedly assaulted his partner in their shared home on Tuesday morning and on two occasions choked her, leaving her unable to breathe.
After several attempts by his partner to leave the home, the defendant allegedly followed the woman to the Lanyon marketplace car park at Banks where he punched her several times in the face and to the back of the head.
The woman ran away and called police and the defendant was arrested shortly before noon on Tuesday. He was charged with choking and rendering a person insensible, four assault offences and two damaging property offences, and granted conditional bail in the ACT Magistrates Court on Wednesday. That evening he allegedly called the woman twice, in breach of no contact conditions, asking her to drop the complaints so he could come home. The partner hung up the phone on both occasions after short conversations.
The ACT Magistrates Court heard on Saturday the defendant posted explicit images of the partner on Facebook hours after the calls, in what a prosecutor described as an attempt at intimidation and to encourage her to contact him.
The defendant handed himself into police in Sydney after a warrant for his arrest was issued on Friday. An extradition order was made and he was delivered to the ACT Watch House.
Court documents said the repeated assaults on the Tuesday occurred after the couple had attended the Canberra Hospital emergency department due to the defendant's severe toothache, but he had not received treatment and took painkillers on the day.
A prosecutor opposed bail on the grounds of the risk the defendant would fail to appear at the next hearing and may commit further offences, including against his partner. He told the court the defendant had failed to appear at court events on August 11 and 31 for unrelated traffic matters.
Magistrate Peter Morrison said the prosecutor's concerns were backed by the evidence and, with no defence submission on the posting of the explicit images, the only inference to be drawn was it was an attempt at intimidation.
No pleas were given. The matter was adjourned to September 22.
