Bouncer pleads not guilty to grievous bodily harm

January 12, 2012

A nightclub bouncer accused of a serious assault outside a Civic venue, allegedly leaving a man in hospital with jaw fractures, will fight the charge against him.

Police allege Totini John Totini punched the alleged victim on the Northbourne Avenue bar and club strip last month.

The altercation allegedly left the man with two jaw fractures, four broken teeth, a laceration to the back of his head, and a ruptured ear canal.

The 26-year-old Aranda man underwent surgery and is expected to require continuing orthodontic treatment.

Totini appeared briefly in the ACT Magistrates Court yesterday morning to answer the charge of intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm. It is alleged the 21-year-old was working for a security contractor hired by Northbar on the night in question, but the altercation is alleged to have occurred outside the adjacent venue ICBM.

The Richardson man formally entered a plea of not guilty during yesterday's hearing, his first court appearance.

His lawyer, Michael Kukulies-Smith, said the charges would be ''vigorously defended''.

Totini was already on police bail with conditions not to contact, approach, threaten or intimidate his alleged victim.

He must also report to police twice a week.

Deputy Registrar Michael Edwards adjourned the matter until March.
