NSW Police said a Toyota Prado wagon carrying two adults and four children was travelling on Jerrara Road at Bungonia when it left the road and crashed into a tree around 4.45pm.
A seven-year-old boy, who was a passenger in the car, died at the scene.
A 10-year-old girl was airlifted to Canberra Hospital for treatment to non-life threatening injuries, while the 38-year-old male driver and the other three passengers escaped uninjured.
The driver was taken to Goulburn Base Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.
