A police investigation is underway after a resident discovered a bullet hole in their home in Canberra's south on Thursday night.

Police were called to the property on Clift Crescent, Richardson, at 8pm after the occupant returned home and discovered the bullet hole.
It is not clear where they found it, or the extent of the damage.
Police and forensics attended the scene and determined the hole was caused by a firearm.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman said no one was home or was injured when the gun was fired.
