Cheap ... The Canberra City youth hostel is offering 100 rooms for 100c each for the Centenary.
As summer fades and March approaches, the sense of building momentum is palpable in Canberra.
And everyone wants a piece of the Centenary, especially the dozens of cash-strapped tourists who were fortunate enough to log onto the Youth Hostel Association website this week and managed to snag a room for just $1 in March.
As of Monday, the Canberra City YHA was offering 100 beds at 100 cents for stays in March, an offer that, not surprisingly, was almost sold out by Wednesday.
A spokesman at the hostel said the offer, available for stays between March 1-28, had been marketed through social media, and was only available online.
And, for a hostel with 282 beds in total, selling just 100 beds for $1 each over an entire month was not a huge cost.
“The idea was to get people here for March, and for the Centenary,” he said.
