Championing at the bit for more centenary information

Well, at least I’m not the only Centenary Champion out there – the Centenary team has just announced that it will be training up key staff in Canberra hotels to keep guests up-to-date with everything that’s happening this year.
The hotel industry is onboard with all things Centenary, according to Centenary executive director Jeremy Lasek.
And indeed, why wouldn’t it be? Visitor numbers are expected to well up this year, especially in March, and it will make sense if hotel staff – specifically these specially appointed “Centenary Champions” - know what they’re on about.
Mr Lasek says the Centenary team is also working with national attractions, restaurants, bars, cafes and the taxi industry to ensure they all have the Centenary in the top of their minds when talking to tourists.
According to the media release, as the Centenary program is so big, it will be “broken down into weekly segments for ease of use. Champions will also be sent a weekly ‘what’s on’ program the Centenary team will produce”.
Hmmm – where can I get my hands on one of those? I fact, why is it just the hotels who get that kind of easy-to-digest information, to be passed on to out-of-towners? What about us locals? Will we, too, be forced to rely on taxi drivers and hotel concierges for all things Centenary?
