Judging from the sold-out, four-night extravaganza, Canberra has officially outgrown its ''dullsville'' tag and is slipping into something more fashionable thanks to the long awaited arrival of the first ever fashion week type event.
More than 1200 people are expected to flock to Fashfest, including a number of high-profile Canberrans, politicians, interstate celebrities, fashion and accessories buyers from around the ACT and NSW.
Thirty designers, whose collections range from menswear to bridal couture to vintage African ready-to-wear, will all showcase their colourful and creative wares on an industrial-themed catwalk adjacent to the airport's main runway.
Every aspect of the inaugural event has a local connection - a strict stipulation enforced by founding directors Clinton and Andrea Hutchinson.
"Fashfest is all about showcasing and harnessing Canberra talent; everyone from the designers to models, to DJs, to hair and make-up artists, even the front row celebrity guests have a Canberra link," Mr Hutchinson said.
Special standing room only tickets for $35 are still available from the official Fashfest website.
