As a young student he was identified as a talented artist and had his sights set on architecture as a career, but his journey took him into the army, an honours degree in civil engineering and ultimately a career in project management and property development.
On Tuesday he was named as the new chairman of the Canberra Glassworks, taking over from long-standing chair Nola Anderson for a three-year term.
"I did move away from the arts but I'm really happy to come back in and support the Glassworks and the arts scene as I do love the arts and what they provide to the community," Snare said.
He said one of the biggest challenges for the Glassworks will be the establishment of the Kingston Arts Precinct.
"I want to keep adding to the vibrancy, vitality and visibility of the Glassworks over my term and a key aspect for us will be how we work with and integrate with the Kingston Arts Precinct," he said.
"That will be the biggest change to our landscape over the next 10 years so we want to be able to position ourselves very well to take full advantage of that opportunity.
"We're going to be seeing a lot more patrons in the area, a lot more exposure, and hopefully that will translate to a stronger financial position."
His appointment comes at an exciting time for the Glassworks as it celebrates 10 years of operation and the announcement of the Building our Glass Future fundraising campaign.
Snare has been a director of the Glassworks board since 2015 and was appointed deputy chair in 2016. Anderson will continue to serve as a director on the board with treasurer Ian McShane, secretary Pria O'Sullivan and directors Joan Uhr and Brendan Smyth.
"I would like to recognise Nola Anderson's incredible contributions as chair over the last three years and thank her for her guidance and support on behalf of the entire board," Snare said.
A graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy where he received his honours degree in civil engineering, Snare also holds a Masters in Business Management (Executive) from the Australian Graduate School of Management. In 2006 he founded Point Project Management, which grew to become one of the largest specialist construction and infrastructure project management consultancies in Australasia. In 2014 Point was acquired by the London Stock Exchange and FTSE 250 listed company, RPS Group.
In recognition of his business achievements with Point, Snare was recognised as the Australian Institute of Management Owner Manager of the Year. He also serves on the board of Radford College where his children are students.
