The Canberra Greyhound Racing Club has started defamation action against ACT Greens leader Shane Rattenbury after he told a local radio station he had evidence of cruelty within the local industry.

Last week the club reported Mr Rattenbury to ACT Policing for allegedly failing to pass on information he claimed to have about specific incidents cruelty within the ACT greyhound racing industry in a 2CC interview with Chris Coleman.
At the time, the club said if the police found he had "lied", it would take him to court.
Mr Rattenbury confirmed the club had this week begun defamation proceedings against him and he had sought legal advice.
In a statement last week, the club said it was in a "legal battle for survival" and described Mr Rattenbury's comments as "nothing but fabrications for political gain".
The club has previously flagged plans to fight in court an ACT government ban on the sport in Canberra from June 2018.
Lawyers for the club said by funnelling money for the greyhound industry into an assistance fund for people forced to leave, the government was 'just terms' for funding it used to receive from ACTTAB before the agency's 2014 sale to Tabcorp.
