ACT government data released on Wednesday reveal an average of 222 people were seen at the Canberra Hospital each day between March and June, up from 203 last year.

Despite the hospital being busier, the government claims waiting times have improved and the average wait fell from 66 minutes to 57 minutes.

The average treatment time dropped more than half an hour, from two hours 55 minutes to two hours 21 minutes, figures show.

Health Minister Simon Corbell said he expected hospital performance would continue to improve on the back of "system-wide reform" and a $29 million commitment during the next four years for more ED doctors and nurses.

"[The data] highlights significant improvements in waiting time and treatment time in the emergency department in the Canberra Hospital," he said.

"This is at a time whilst presentations to the emergency department have increased."

The data was released about a month after the ACT government was forced to correct misleading data on the performance of Canberra's public hospitals.

On Wednesday, Mr Corbell firmly denied any allegations of data doctoring, insisting what had occurred was "incorrect transcription of accurate data".

"It wasn't a case of entering false data into a database. It was incorrect calculations based on that accurate data," he said.

"It's a very, very different set of circumstances. What happened four or five years ago was a deliberate entering of incorrect information, false information into a database. This is not what has occurred on this occasion.

"What has occurred on this occasion are three relatively minor errors that actually made the ED's performance look worse than it actually was if you use the accurate data."

In the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, Mr Corbell tabled answers that had been provided to the Auditor-General over the matter.

Mr Corbell was satisfied the ACT had sound practices for accurate recording of ACT health data.

But Opposition Leader Jeremy Hanson said he did not trust the latest data released by the government on Wednesday.

"It is not a coincidence today's latest data, which is drawn from a bizarre, non-standard data testing period of three months and 27 days, is released on the morning of health estimates committee hearings," he said.

"Mr Corbell is running an ad hoc release of health performance figures."

Mr Corbell said the data released on Wednesday reflected the period since an ED reform program was established.

"We changed the way we treated people in the ED to make sure treatment would occur in a more timely way and that we work towards meeting our national emergency access targets," he said.

"I've now released data for the four months since the reforms were implemented and the results speak for themselves. The reforms are making a difference and treatment times and waiting times are both dropping and access and timeliness is significantly improving and while there is more work to be done, these are very encouraging results."

Meanwhile there has also been an increase in the number of elective surgeries performed after an $11.8 million surgery blitz to tackle wait times.

Doctors performed a record number of surgeries in 2015-16, nearly 13,400, which was 1500 more than the previous financial year.

The blitz had the number of Canberrans who waited too long for surgery fall from 1335 to 409 as of Monday, a 69 per cent improvement in seven months, Mr Corbell said.

Mr Hanson also disputed the government's claims on elective surgery list improvements, and said more people were waiting for surgery than four years ago.

"In June 2012, there were 3996 people on the waiting list, this month there are 4273," he said.

"Simon Corbell and ACT Labor have terrible form on health reporting and the data cannot be trusted."
