A man who allegedly fled Canberra's jail with another inmate on Friday night has faced court charged with escaping custody.

Patrick McCurley, 28, wore a white singlet, tracksuit pants and socks when he appeared briefly in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday morning.
He was charged with drug driving, stealing a motor vehicle, dangerous driving and escaping the Alexander Maconochie Centre.
Few details of the pair's alleged break-out and the circumstances surrounding McCurley's capture were aired in court.
But in a statement published on Sunday night, ACT Policing said a tip-off from a member of the public led police to arrest him at Majura about 6pm.
He was allegedly caught after police stopped a car he was driving on Majura Road.
Police said they found the car after a tip off McCurley had been seen driving a Suzuki Swift in Weston Creek about 5pm.
McCurley did not apply for bail and sat with his head down when he faced court, represented by a Legal Aid duty lawyer.
Magistrate Robert Cook said bail would be formally refused on grounds he was likely to reoffend or fail to appear at court. The case will return to court later this month.
He was already before the courts on more than a dozen charges for alleged traffic and stolen property offences, as well as escaping arrest.
The second detainee, Jacob MacDonald, 21, remains on the run after the two men were last seen inside the prison about 11.15pm.
Their disappearance sparked a wide-scale search across the ACT and nearby parts of NSW as police asked for the public's help to find the pair.
Both men were on remand.
Corrections Minister Shane Rattenbury promised a full internal review into the incident, which was the first successful escape from the territory's jail since it began taking prisoners in 2009.
MacDonald is facing charges relating to property and burglary offences and is described as Caucasian in appearance, solid build, with brown eyes and about 185cm tall.
He was last seen wearing grey pants and a grey jumper.
Police asked the public to not approach him and to call police if they knew anything about his whereabouts.
