The Liberals' Alistair Coe will introduce legislation on Wednesday that would force the disclosure of all invoices the Government pays worth more than $10,000.

Mr Coe said his proposal was not aimed at any particular agency or project but was about best-practice government and was in line with similar moves among governments in Britain and the United States.
At the moment the Government lists contracts worth more than $25,000 online, but doesn't disclose invoices paid. Mr Coe's legislation would provide a database of paid invoices, published online. It would include the name of the organisation invoicing the territory, a description of what each invoice is for. The information would be made available within 30 days of the invoice being paid.
"It's to bring a greater level of transparency and accountability to government expenditure," Mr Coe said. "It's reasonable for taxpayers to know how the Government is spending their money. And it will ensure that people are thinking twice about approving bills. Politicians and public servants will realise that when they are spending taxpayers' money it has the potential to be scrutinised."
