1. AUSTRALIAN BEARD DAY
Canberra's bearded community will come together at King O'Malley's in Civic on Sunday for the annual Australian Beard Day celebrations. There will be competitions for the most glorious face rugs (including one for those sporting fake beards) with judging by none other than Nathaniel Beard and John Beardman Jr from The Beards. Plus live music, men's grooming products on display and Beardy Beer by locals StoneAge Brewing on tap. Festivities are on 11am-9pm. Entry by gold coin donation, with the event raising money for White Ribbon.
2. NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM
Step into the unknown for the museum's after dark event, Night At The Museum. This time the theme is 'uncharted', exploring the world of the alien and exotic. There will be virtual reality, edible insects, laser tag, karaoke, survival skills, music and dancing. The event is licensed, with drinks and food for sale. 3. GEOSCIENCE AUSTRALIA OPEN DAY
Find out how earthquakes are detected, talk to real scientists or learn about how smart phones work at Geoscience Australia's 2017 annual open day. Science displays, hands-on activities and talks for all ages will be on all day. It's on Sunday from 9am-2pm at Geoscience Australia, corner of Hindmarsh Drive and Jerrabomberra Avenue, Symonston. Free entry and all ages.
4. STRICTLY SCIENCE
To close National Science Week, Belconnen Arts Centre is hosting an evening of science, hilarity and some nudity. Art and science will collide as Canberra's leading scientists and artists explore the science behind sex, sass and sound. It's on Saturday night from 7.30pm. 5. PETE MURRAY
The Byron Bay singer-songwriter is on the road, touring his new album, Camacho, including a show at Canberra Theatre Centre on Saturday night. Tickets are $61.90 from canberratheatrecentre.com.
6. ANTIQUES AND COLLECTABLES FAIR
Rotary's Springtime Antique and Collectables Fair is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Albert Hall with 23 dealers from around Australia selling high quality antiques and collectables. It's open Friday 6-9pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 10am-4pm. Entry is $6-8 and kids under 14 are free. Proceeds from the event go to CanTeen, which supports young people living with cancer.
7. LIVE COMEDY
Two opportunities to catch some live comedy on Saturday night. At Canberra Theatre Centre, Tom Gleeson is performing his new show Cheer Up for two shows at 7pm and 8.45pm. Tickets $42 from canberratheatrecentre.com.au. Over at The Street Theatre, straight-shooting and boundary-breaching Sydney comedian Neel Kolhatkar is performing from 8pm.
