In what's being called a tripartisan triathlon, Labor MLA Bec Cody, Liberal MLA Mark Parton and Greens MLA Shane Rattenbury have teamed up to each complete a leg of the Proximity Canberra Triathlon Festival 2019.

Ms Cody will be doing the 200-metre swim, Mr Parton the 10-kilometre bike leg and Mr Rattenbury the two-kilometre run in the event at Lake Burley Griffin on February 9.

Mr Rattenbury said he was ready for some collaboration.

"I can't wait. It's going to be a lot of fun, to do something co-operative with the other members of the Assembly. It's not always like that in the chamber, but on the day we'll be going as flat as we can to put the ACT Assembly in a good light and put in a good performance," he said.

"I've been doing triathlons for 25 years. I know Bec's been doing it for the last few years, and I know Mark is a keen rider."

Mr Rattenbury also encouraged other Canberrans to get involved. He said there was plenty of time to train after Christmas, and it was a fun event to do with colleagues and friends.

"This is a great triathlon. If you've never done one this is the perfect one to start with. The distances are achievable," he said.
