The popular brewery has launched its first canned beers, with its Crankshaft and Barley Griffin brews just released in bottle-os all over town.

The operation is still completely local, with Bentspoke owners Richard Watkins and Tracy Margrain launching their new cannery in Mitchell this week.

"We opened the brew pub [in Braddon] in 2014 and we've had really good support there and it's been quite busy and [we're] selling a lot of beer," Watkins said.

"And the story really is that people kept going, 'where can we buy your beer, where can we buy your beer?' And at the end of the day all we could say is you could only buy it in the brew pub. So the plan for this place is about getting the beer more widely available around Canberra."

The cans are now available at 11 stores around town – Ainslie Cellars, Calwell BWS, Cook Friendly Grocer, Curtin Urban Cellars, Franklin BWS, Jim Murphy's Airport Cellars, Jim Murphy's Market Cellars, Mawson BWS, Page Bottler, Plonk and Prohibition – although you might want to get in quick.

"They only went out yesterday and we went out on three separate trips to one venue yesterday," Margrain said.

Luckily the cannery can pump out up to 33 cans a minute.

"We always knew that we wanted to do cans, it was just a matter of when we did them and it's kind of happened sooner than we wanted," Margrain said.

The cans and their cartons have been packaged with artwork of an abstract map of Canberra filled with many of the usual local suspects – Lake Burley Griffin, cyclists, and even Skywhale.

They are starting with just the two beers, and Watkins said they will definitely add to the canned offerings.

The public can have their own look at the new facility this Sunday November 6 at the Bentspoke "Cannival'' from 11am-6pm, which is part of Canberra Beer Week.

There will be street food, live music, a jumping castle, face painting, a chance to look around, and of course, beer.

After that, you will have to wait until next year when the cannery will reopen to the public with a bar, kitchen, and indoor and outdoor seating. Both the food and beer will be available to enjoy there, or takeaway.

The Bentspoke Cannery is on the corner of Brookes and Lysaght streets in Mitchell.
