The self-titled range is Tunks' first foray into fabrics, and will launch with a capsule collection of linen throw rugs, double-sided cushions and scarves.

"I'd always worked on the periphery of fashion and a lot of interior design with what I did at my previous career so I thought why don't I draw those elements together and create a new brand," Tunks said.

"What I wanted to do was develop a classic range that would work for men and women. It'll be fashion interior accessories but more luxe, more about quality, artisanal , and global in its reach and its inspiration but very much things that are not part of landfill, they're things that you'll hang onto for a very very long time and won't date."

Tunks promises there's "a lot more coming" later this year, including women's fashion, accessories and candles.

Bison was founded in Canberra in 1997 by Tunks with a range of simple, pared-back ceramics that have become a fixture in many homes in Canberra and around the country.

Originally, all of the products were made onsite in the original store in Pialligo. As the brand has grown, production has expanded overseas to include the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and India, but Tunks remains hands-on.

"I spend a lot of time going to every location that I'm working so that I can have a real experience with the people doing the production, not a spin experience that you get from somebody that outsources production," he said.

"A lot of Australian companies have gone down the road of producing overseas and I completely understand that. I'll be producing things locally when I can when there's margin and the quality and access to production that I need, but I'll also produce anywhere I want in the world."

The collection launches this weekend at the Pialligo shop, with in-store appearances by Tunks plus a "posie pop-up" by Braddon florists Moxom and Whitney who will show how to style flowers with Bison Home vessels and fabrics.

The collection will also be available online at bisonhome.com, and will be available nationally and then internationally later this year.
