Move over Skywhale, Canberra's skies will soon welcome two new additions.
In the Disney movie Up thousands of helium balloons lift a house off its footings and off on an adventure, now a balloon inspired by the spectacle is coming to the ACT.
The Up balloon will join another new addition to the Canberra Balloon spectacular line-up - Owlbert Eyenstein, a larger than life cartoon owl.
The nine day festival, beginning on Saturday March 12, will feature 40 hot air balloons sourced from as far as the United Kingdom and the United States.
The festival is celebrating its 30th year and before it wraps up on Sunday March 20 there is set to be plenty of excitement on the ground as well as in the air.
Balloons inspired by Star Wars character Yoda and the Angry Birds were some of the highlights of last year's festival.
Balloons launch daily from 6.15am on the lawns of Old Parliament House against the distinctive backdrop of Canberra's national attractions.
Breakfast will be available each morning, courtesy of the Belconnen Lions Club, with proceeds donated back to the Canberra community.
Last year, more than $30,000 was donated to local charities.
Each year thousands of spectators attend the balloon spectacular and enjoy the early morning flight atmosphere with family and friends.
More than 30000 spectators are expected to attend this year, with crowds swelling to approximately 5000 on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
