Here is a simple cheat sheet to make your weekend of food, fun, animals and entertainment easy.

The show kicks off on Friday from 8.30am and runs to 10pm. It's also Seniors Day, meaning holders of a Seniors Card get discounted entry.

Saturday opening hours are 8.30am to 10.00pm and Sunday from 8.30am to 6pm.

The Showbags Pavilion as well as rides and attractions at Side Show Alley are open throughout the three days, however the Farmyard Nursery and various Animal Pavilions are open shorter hours.

If you have pre-purchased ticket (available until February 25) then you can get free return ACTION Bus transport to the show.

If you drive, expect a bit of traffic. Public parking will set you back $10 a vehicle.

It is available at Wells Station road via Sanford Street or Northbourne Avenue and at Randwick Road via Flemington Road. However parking is prohibited on on the verges of Flemington Road, Randwick Road, Morisset Road or Wells Station Road.

There is a taxi rank located at the Flemington Road entrance to the show.

Taking your own wheels? Cycle paths can be found along Flemington Road and Northbourne Avenue so you can pedal in from just about anywhere.

For some the show is about gobbling down a Dagwood Dog and chips for a main course, and fairy floss for dessert but there is a huge host of global flavours on offer at the Royal Canberra show.

The Hearty Choice Food Court offers a variety of healthier foods including salads, baked potatoes, fresh Japanese food, Greek and Indian cuisine, as well as Peruvian street food.

The Family Food Court gives you options in view of the main arena. There are options such as pizza or beef burgers, gourmet options such as free range pulled pork burgers and American style smoked meats as well as fish and chips and Mexican.

The Canberra Strongman Association will debut at the 2017 show near the Leisure and Lifestyle Pavilion. Don't miss men and women completing outstanding feats of strength as they vie for the title.

The weekend is tipped to be overcast and possibly wet. So throw in a poncho and make sure you have comfortable, mud-proof shoes.

Friday is expected to be partly cloudy with a top of 32 degrees. A slight (30 per cent)chance of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Saturday is expected to be cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of rain. A cooler day is forecast with top temperatures of just 25 degrees.

Sunday is forecast to be partly cloudy again and reach 26 degrees. Light winds are predicted and a slight chance (30 per cent) of showers.
