Canberran Mick Logue has been selected in the Australian team to head to the first ever World Quiz Olympiad, which is fittingly being held in Greece.

"I didn't do amazing at school or anything but I was always good at remembering stuff," Mr Logue said.

"I'm a bit of an outlier in the quiz community, I'm a horrible student. I'm pretty good at remembering – I mean I can never remember someone's birthday and I can't find my keys and all that sort of stuff, but random stuff tends to stick which is good."

Mr Logue is the youngest member of the eight-man Aussie team at only 29.

"I guess the good thing about that is I'm not expected to peak for another 30 years," he said.

"At 29 you think your chances of representing Australia have probably passed you, but the Socceroos weren't hiring, regrettably".

While it's not quite the World Cup, the World Quiz Olympiad is attracting some of the biggest names in the industry.

"Ken Jennings, who won 74 consecutive episodes of Jeopardy, is captain of the American team. And Kevin Ashman and Pat Gibson from TV show Eggheads will be there for England and they'll probably clean it up," he said.

Quizzing is a career for Mr Logue, who runs local trivia company Trivial Excuse and hosts trivia at Wilbur's in Hackett and the Canberra Club in Barton.

He will travel to Athens with his girlfriend for the event, and it will be his first visit to Europe.

The Olympiad is held over four days from November 3. And Mr Logue said the after-hours shenanigans will be a bit more low-key than the actual Olympics.

"For a start there's not many girls ... And it's quite an introverted bunch. They're going for the competition – not for the shenanigans."
