Described as affectionate, athletic and agile, Julia will be joined by Quentin Bryce and, somewhat surprisingly, Harold Holt at a new cafe set to open later this year.

But don't be confused. Rather than having to sit through a coffee date with politicians, the Capital Cat Cafe will offer something somewhat more laidback.

The cafe is an ambitious idea thought up by sisters Carolyn and Andrea Sewell, who are crowdfunding money to open the quirky venue by September.

The sisters have started adopting cats - nine are ready to be part of Canberra's first cat cafe. Julia, once a stray kitten, is an intelligent ginger-haired puss.

"Julia is a very independent cat," Carolyn said.

"She loves attention, is sweet natured and affectionate but on her own terms."

"Finding cats with the right personalities and temperaments that will enjoy and thrive in the cat cafe is of the upmost importance to us.

This is the reason we have been slowly adopting cats and working with them in the lead up to the cat cafe opening."

The cafe is set to feature a fully-functioning coffee shop, with an adjoining living area for 15 cats.

The Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign finishes on July 10.
