Has it really been 40 years since ABBA landed in Australia? Surely we're not that old! The Embassy of Sweden presents a special event celebrating the 1977 concert tour. Courtesy of the ABBA Museum in Stockholm, the National Sound and Film Archive screens a documentary interview with acclaimed director Lasse Hallstrom, whose career took off thanks to ABBA's iconic music clips, followed by his film record of the super-group in Australia, ABBA: The Movie. A fun day planned at the National Gallery of Australia on Sunday February 26 as workshops, performances and art installations take over the Scultpure Gardens. Echoing the gold, grandeur and glamour of Versailles: Treasures from the Palace, Sculpture Garden Sunday inspires people of all ages to get creative. Join Versailles courtiers for free drop-in workshops where families can paint, draw and make installations using recycled and recyclable materials. Enjoy live music by local legends Mr Tim and the Fuzzy Elbows, bring a picnic to share or purchase a sausage from the Mulga Scouts sausage sizzle. The Gallery's indoor and outdoor cafés are also open. Sculpture Garden Sunday will be cancelled in wet weather. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

We're excited by the Canberra Theatre Centre announcement of a whole host of family friendly shows happening in 2017. These include ERTH'S Prehistoric Aquarium (September), The Very Hungry Caterpillar (August), Mr Stink (July) based on the book by David Walliams, Jackie French's Diary Of A Wombat (June), and We're Going On A Bear Hunt (May). After wandering up to The Front Gallery and Cafe a few weeks ago to listen to Winterbourne we've decided to do all we can to support live music. On February 25 head to The Transit Bar to catch She Riff: Volume 5, an event that showcases Canberra's talented female musicians and their original music. Featuring The Colours Are, Sally Chicane, Rumblr and Dalmacia, the night promises to be an eclectic mix of instrumentals, rock, jazz, and groove. The night kicks off at 8pm. Over 18s only.

The Veolia Mulwaree Trust is now calling for applications from local artists for the 2017 Veolia Creative Arts Scholarships. The scholarships are available for practicing and emerging artists from any one of the seven Local Government Areas serviced by the Veolia Mulwaree Trust, including Goulburn Mulwaree, Oberon, Palerang, Shoalhaven, Upper Lachlan, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly Shire Council areas. Two scholarships valued at $3000 each are available for this year. The scholarships are on offer to local creative artists working in any arts discipline, including but not limited to, visual arts, music, theatre and writing. Transitions is Kate and Keith Bender's first joint exhibition. A painter and sculptor respectively, their work is a culmination of working in neighboring studios in Bungendore following mid-life career changes. The works created for Transitions have been in response to, and perhaps also in opposition of, the influence of one on the other. Working so close together, patterns of (subconscious) influence are inevitable, and the Transitions between the three dimensional and two dimensional mediums emerge.
