An exhibition of paintings, drawings, assemblage and sculpture, Mutable Realities showcases work by Patsy Payne, Sara Freeman, Trish Roan and Peter Jordan. These artists are exploring beyond the world of reason, using their work to delve into fantastic worlds of the intangible and uncertain. Mutable Realities is on at Nishi Gallery Kendall Lane New Acton from October 13 to 30.

In Illumi NOIR, Canberra artists Antoinette Karsten, Ange Price, Philip Mudin, and Jenny Blake are showing work that reflects our daily human experience: the light, shade, shadows and darkness with which we all live. It's a collection of works from students at the CIT Diploma of Visual Arts School, ranging from Karsten's eccentric portraits to Price's delicate watercolours, Mudin's meditatative drawings to Blake's tranquil works. The exhibition is on at the Design Space Gallery, CIT Reid Campus, F block,37 Constitution Avenue, Canberra from October 12 to 22.

The World Around Us is art exhibition by Canberra artists Eva Henry, Stuart Marshall and Isla Patterson that features watercolours, oils and pastel paintings of seascapes, landscapes, botanical art and portraits and is on until October 30 Thursday and Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 8.30 to 4.3 pm at Ginninderra School House, Gold Creek, Nicholls.

What might Beethoven have written if he had a modern grand piano at his disposal with its greater power, increased range and third pedal? We'll never know, but Canberra pianist and composer Larry Sitsky brings his talents to bear on some of the classical master's repertoire in a recital at Wesley Music Centre on Wednesday, October 12 at 6pm, playing the Bagatelles Op.124 and the Sonata Op.110 & Sonata ("Tempest") Op. 31, no.2. In 1939 Billie Holiday first sang the powerful anti-lynching song Strange Fruit - written by white Jewish teacher Abel Meerepol - that became one of her signature numbers. Canberra's Griffyn Ensemble is collaborating with Scottish contemporary musicians The Red Note Ensemble for three concerts. At Noisy Nights on Wednesday. October 12 at 7pm at The Front, Lyneham shops Red Note will perform premieres of works by Canberrans. On October 13 at 7pm at Belconnen Arts Centre Red Note will perform 20th and 21st-century music for string quartet including works by Arvo Part and Luciano Berio. And on October 14 and 15 at 7pm at the National Portrait Gallery, Griffyn and Red Note will perform together with music exploring homelessness and the arrival of refugees. Canberra glass artist Lucy Palmer has been awarded the 2016 Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society's (ADFAS) grant of $1000 which will assist in developing her artistic practice.This is the fifth awards ADFAS in Canberra has presented to a Canberra-based glass artist. Palmer graduated from the University of South Australia in 2013 and has lived in Canberra for 18 months. Her studio is at Canberra Glassworks and she plans to use the funds to develop work for her first solo exhibition at M16 in January 2017. And Braidwood artist Millan Pintos-Lopez has been announced as a recipient of a $10,000 NSW Young Regional Artists Scholarship. The scholarship will go towards helping Pintos-Lopez undertake a professional development program at the Bauhaus Archive and Bauhaus School in Europe.
