While some Canberrans enjoyed a rest after the running festival on Sunday others were busy creating chalk rainbows in support of equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.

Children and adults took part in the annual DIY Rainbow event, which pays tribute to a simple act of protest that became an internet sensation in 2013.
James Brechney, founder of the DIY Rainbow movement, said the act of "chalking a rainbow" started as a joke on his personal Facebook profile but quickly became a sign of solidarity and protest across the world.
"Two years ago the rainbow crossing on Oxford Street was torn up by the government and so I chalked up a rainbow behind by terrace house and it really caught on," he said.
"It's become something that a lot of people do at marriage equality rallies and something that has grown from what started as a joke on my Facebook page."
The Oxford Street rainbow crossing, which was designed to mark 35 years of Sydney's Mardi Gras, was ripped up in April 2013 after a long dispute with the city council.
The crossing was removed after a City of Sydney audit raised concerns about safety with people reportedly laying on the crossing after drinking.
Mr Brechney said the chalk rainbow quickly became a symbol of solidarity and support with events held across Australia to mark the second anniversary.
"Chalking a rainbow is a really good conversation starter so we get a lot of families down talking about equality along with the gay community," he said.
Canberra organiser Alyssa Tasker said there were about 50 people at the event with more people stopping by to ask about the project and learn about its history.
"There were a lot of people and young families in particularly stopping by to ask what we were doing, which led to a lot of discussions," she said.
Ms Tasker was delighted by the number of supportive Canberra families and was confident it would be held again.
"I think the chalk rainbow movement has grown from something that was based around the crossing and the gay community to become something used to show support for the community and equality in general," she said.
"It may have started in the gay community but it has become more than that and can be used by all sorts of campaigns for equality."
