Chris Ellyard is Canberra Rep's stalwart lighting designer

One of the stalwarts of the Canberra theatre world – and in particular Canberra Repertory Society – for the past three decades has been Chris Ellyard. He's done a lot in his time, from acting to stage crew to serving on council to painting, building and designing sets. But what he's done most and is best known for is lighting operation and design and and he's always keen to pass on his skills. He recently conducted another of his workshops, this time for university students, to share what he knows. He'd hoped some would help out on the latest Rep production but it turned out none were available. Still, he's philosophical about this and it hasn't dampened his enthusiasm for passing on his knowledge – it's the former teacher in him, he says.
