Kathryn O'Keeffe said one of the acts in Circa's Beyond, was called Ballroom. But this wasn't the standard waltz-and-tango number.
"I myself and Billie Wilson-Coffey have Paul O'Keeffe standing on our heads," she said.
Paul O'Keeffe is her husband, so, not surprisingly, "There's plenty of trust."
The Queensland circus company's show opened at the Canberra Theatre on Wednesday night. One of the themes of Beyond, she said, was "finding your inner animal" and these and ideas were explored with a combination of circus feats, vaudeville and burlesque.
O'Keeffe, 30, studied dance and gymnastics in Canberra before graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts. Her combination of skills came in handy touring with the theatrical dance and circus company Strange Fruit. She performed with it in Canberra in 2007.
In 2010 she was part of the seven-month aerial resident company that performed Airbourne at the World Expo in Shanghai.
She joined Circa in 2011 and Beyond marked her first time performing with the company in Canberra.
"I love what I'm doing," she said.
"I get to go to travel to a lot of fabulous places. This year we have an Australian tour and we're going to the Brighton Festival in the UK."
