Yes, the theatre is looking for a dog actor to perform on stage in a play next week, starting Thursday August 6.

It's holding auditions for the role early next week.

According to the theatre, the script calls for an old sheepdog but the producers are willing to consider any breed of dog.

The main stipulation is that man's best friend can't get stage fright.

Your pet should be an older dog that is docile and can sit still and quietly on stage. The dog will be on stage for brief periods during the performance.

And you've both got to have a commitment to the play - both owner and the dog must be available from Thursday, August 6, to Saturday, August 8.

What's the play? All will be revealed at the audition.

It's not the first time Canberra's dogs have been given a chance at theatre stardom - last year producers held an open casting call for dogs to play the best friends of Bruiser, the pet chihuahua who is prominently featured in Legally Blonde the Musical.

Canberra's dogs responded enthusiastically at the open auditions at the pet-friendly Oaks Brasserie in Yarralumla.
