Returning for its third year, the design festival, run by Craft ACT, has grown from nine days to a full month, with events held over four weekends from October 27.
The program includes events, activations and workshops featuring landscape design, architecture and industrial design, to technology, fashion, jewellery and homewares.
The main exhibition will pay tribute to internationally-renowned Canberra designer and F!nk Design founder Robert Foster who died in a car crash in July. Luminary: Remembering Robert Foster will be held among his striking "Ossolites" sculptures in the foyer of the ActewAGL building in Civic.
"It's a real celebration of the incredible contribution that Robbie made to design and craft in Canberra," said Rachael Coghlan, CEO of Craft ACT.
"It's been curated by the extraordinarily talented and well respected curator Grace Cochrane. And Grace has managed to secure a large number of personal collection loans of works that were handmade by Robbie."
Coghlan is also putting the call out to the public to loan Craft ACT their F!nk jugs as part of the tribute.
Architecture and landscape design are a particular focus over the first three weekends, and one series of events called "Living Rooms" will give the public the opportunity to visit some of the city's most beautiful houses.
"We've invited people with acclaimed architectural houses to open up their living rooms so people can come in and have a look at their beautiful homes without pretending they're buying the house at an open inspection," Coghlan said.
"And we've invited young emerging makers to curate little pop-up exhibitions in those living rooms so it might be just on a dining table or a kitchen bench and those emerging curators have worked with established designers and makers to develop these exhibitions. And works in those spaces will be available for sale so it's a really wonderful way to celebrate design in the every day and the beautiful architecture and making in our city."
There is also some international flavour in the line-up, with Francis Sollano (Philippines), sustainable designer David Trubridge (New Zealand) and Giovanna Massoni (Belgium) holding events.
Design Canberra runs from October 27-November 25. See the full program at designcanberrafestival.com.au.
