Tuggeranong Arts Centre is offering the Empire Global Art Award for the second year with a cash prize of $4000. Local and regional artists are invited to submit artwork responding to the award theme on Monday, July 31.

The theme for the 2017 award is taken from the words of Mahatma Gandhi, who said, "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." It continues the focus of the centre's 2017 artistic program on animals and people's relationships with them.
The award has two prizes; a People's Choice Award of a $250 voucher courtesy of Hang Ups Picture Framing and a $4000 cash prize provided by Empire Global.
Entries, accompanied by a $40 entry fee, must be delivered to Tuggeranong Arts Centre between 10am and 5pm on Monday, July 31.
The Empire Global Art Award is open to artists and craftspeople who are 18 years and over and residents of Canberra or the Canberra region (including Queanbeyan, Braidwood, Goulburn, Yass, and Cooma). Works may be in any medium. All work must be original, completed within the past two years and not previously exhibited.
Selected entries will be exhibited in the Tuggeranong Arts Centre gallery following the opening and awards ceremony on Thursday, August 3, until September 2
Last year's winner in the Youth category was Tuggeranong resident Alison Piper for her digital photograph Two-Faced and the winner in the Over 25 category was Kerry Johns for her acrylic painting Not Mt Clear.
