Look at Great Britain alone. Five million a day is her war expenditure – Sundays included. That amounts to a fabulous sum of £1,825,000,000 a year! And for what? For purposes of destruction only.

She could clear out her slums, and build decent houses for her workers to live in. She could . . . lift her masses out of the depths of misery and want. She could rob old age of its terrors, and make it a real privilege to be born beneath her skies.

"We all of us love the Old Land, but one of its famous statesmen said of it some 70 years ago, 'It is the Paradise of the rich and the Hell of the poor.' If money now being expended on death and destruction were devoted to redeeming efforts, Great Britain would soon have more Heaven per square mile than any country ever knew.
