Noting that this column receives oodles of items (often wildlife-based) from eventful, enviable Ainslie we wondered if there might be a kind of Only In Ainslie factor. Readers and colleagues leap to assure us that, yes, there is.

In support of the thesis colleague Emma Macdonald saw and photographed, on Thursday morning, this Ainslie schoolboy on his way to school with a sheep on a leash. Eccentric Ainslie!

In humdrum suburbs one only ever sees dogs being taken for walks on leashes but in individualistic Ainslie they do things differently. Some of us, doomed to live elsewhere, in the tedious Canberra, sense we may soon need counselling for our Ainslie-envy.

And speaking of suburban and urban envy some of us, well-travelled, wonder when (if ever) our timid city will festoon itself with some of the sorts of enviable skyscrapers that make some of the great cities of the world (like Chicago and Shanghai) so thrilling.

And can there be such a thing as an erotic skyscaper?

Heterosexual male readers (reliable polling shows that this column has several dozen of them) may notice, looking at our picture of the 226 metre skyscraper Premiere Tower soon to scrape the skies above Melbourne, that they are not entirely unmoved by it. A few tantalising sentences hence we will demystify this Freudian mystery.

Meanwhile, we report that the Australian Institute of Architects (ACT Chapter) has announced to us its 2015 Contemporary Australian Architects Speakers Series. Selected architects will present bold new designs at the National Gallery of Australia. Elenberg Fraser's curvaceous residential high-rise (pictured) destined for Melbourne's Spencer Street, is to be one of the designs discussed. The Institute sent us a blizzard of images of the designs to be discussed in the Series but it was images of the voluptuous Premiere that drew by far the biggest "Gosh!" from this boy columnist.

I didn't understand why at that moment, but reading on one discovered that the architects say the inspiration for the building has been a Beyoncé music video for her ditty Ghosts. Going online to it (with almost indecent haste) we discover that this wondrous damsel spends some part of the movie doing a lubricious dance while enveloped in a kind of body-clinging bodystockingesque onesie.

And sure enough, during the dance, she contorts herself into just the sorts of tall, slender, womanly shapes that we see in the architects' design. No wonder, then, that this promises to be a building the sight of which may prod awake many a chap's latent heterosexual. Those Melburnians who know the unforgettable video will probably never look at the building without seeing a giant Beyoncé.

Jansen Aui of Elenberg Fraser told us on Thursday says that in its shapeliness the Premiere Tower pays homage to the Beyoncé video but also and especially makes artful adjustments to climate and to winds. He explained that very tall, blocky and flat-surfaced, hard-edged buildings tend to deflect high winds down into the streets below, buffeting pedestrian folk. With the site a kind of "island" in Melbourne's busy CBD this would have been irresponsible. But the sinuous Beyonce-shaped building will instead channel winds up and out and away.

Elsewhere his firm trills that "The complex form – a vertical cantilever – is actually the most effective way to redistribute the building's mass, giving the best results in terms of structural dispersion, frequency oscillation and wind requirements."

Yes, those Melburnians who know the unforgettable video will probably never look at the building without seeing a giant, lubriciously oscillating Beyoncé.

Lucky Melburnians! Surely one day, when our city and its movers and shakers become grown-up enough about these things to ignore the anti-high-rise fogeys, we will have some heads-in-the-clouds buildings that make us go "Golly!" and make us feel glad to be living in a throbbing, oscillating 21st century metropolis.

The first of the aforementioned lectures is at the National Gallery of Australia on Wednesday September 9. Ticket information is at www.nga.gov.au/architects and the Institute warns that this annual event is very popular and that tickets move (in our words, not the Institutes) as fast as events in eventful Ainslie.

Meanwhile from all over Canberra and not just from extraordinary Ainslie, readers are reporting harbingers of Spring.

Observant Lois Wishart reports "While going for a walk through (upper) Hughes, not far from the golf course boundary, I watched a pair of ducks inspecting a (highly unsuitable) shallow hollow high on a gum tree as a possible nesting site. The female duck made a lot of noise, apparently excited by her potential 'find', while the drake watched silently from a nearby branch. Last year I saw three ducks plus a drake taking turns to inspect the same hollow before rejecting it."

And while we are outdoors in Canberra .... with the lurid flowers of the Cootamundra Wattle (Acacia baileyana) making the normally modest and elegant damsel of the ACT bush look like a painted trollop, we hope readers have seen the authoritative letter in Thursday's Canberra Times. It makes, yet again, the unanswerable case against this monster weed and the case for eradicating it.

We hope that the man the species is named after, John Frederick Bailey (1866-1933) the botanist and horticulturist (looking on now from Heaven's arboretums) is not taking the plant's infamy personally.
